Technology Administration
FOR STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS
OVERVIEW

April 11-16, 2005: Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education (ESTEME) Week:

The Technology Administration at the Department of Commerce joins the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in partnering with other U.S. Government agencies and scientific societies to sponsor activities for 2005’s "Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education (ESTEME) Week. The events, Web games, and materials for teachers and parents provide an opportunity for the nation’s schools to focus on improving math and science education. Check out the ESTEME Web site to find out about events near you. Or support a hands-on science experience in your home, school, and community.

In President Bush's greeting for ESTEME week, he recognizes that "our nation has a rich history of exploration and discovery, marked by scientific and technological achievements that have transformed the world.

"This week advances America's legacy of progress by encouraging young people to pursue their curiosity and understanding of math, science, technology, and engineering. With a strong foundation in these critical fields, today's students will able to better compete and succeed in the 21st century workforce."

The Technology Administration (TA) recognizes that the innovators of tomorrow are America’s students today. To make certain that tomorrow’s innovators are armed with the education and skills needed to succeed in a knowledge-based economy, TA has dedicated this page to encourage kids to stay in school and excel in math, science, computer and other technology skills, the building blocks for a good career.

TA supports a variety of programs to make learning fun. We invite you to check out our Get Tech web site for kids and read through the photo essays from the student roundtables conducted with winners of the National Medal of Technology, or the robotics competitions hosted by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

The White House dedicates a week every year for the promotion of excellence in math and science called ESTME week. The Technology Administration, as well as the Department of Education, NASA, the Environmental Protection Agency and many others actively participate in events during that week.
